Almost from the moment, the parents hold their newborns, they look forward to their first steps and first words. There are many milestones in the development of a child. Parents record these moments very lovingly in a baby book. Enormous changes are seen in a baby during initial years of life. Substantial progress is made towards their future independence. What should parents expect about walking? Some babies are very anxious and they start moving at a very young age. On the other hand, some babies are like content that should be carried from one place to another. A lot of progress is made by the babies over a period of time with regards to creeping, rolling and crawling. Given below are some averages: •When a baby is 6 months old, it will enjoy rocking back and forth on their knees and hands. This helps in strengthening their muscles. Some babies creep a bit. However, they go backwards rather than going forward. •When a baby is 9 months old, it can move about in a room in any direction. Some babies creep with their bellies on the floor. Some others may crawl. However, some prefer to scoot or roll on their bums and move around. •Some babies walk independently by the time their first birthday is celebrated. Support is needed by many others. They hold the hands of their caregiver or take support of the furniture. Many babies of this age do not need assistance. •By 15 or 16 months, many babies learn to walk on their own. It is common for them to fall down. However, this doesn’t trouble many babies. What should parents expect about talking? Verbal communication is started by babies for communicating their feelings to their parents. Babies cry when they need changing or are scared, tired and hungry. When they are satisfied, they may reward parents with a smile or many coo. Before talking to the familiar caregivers, they babble. Language skills are developed at various different ages. Given below are some averages: •When a baby is 3 months old, they start conversing with their caregivers or parents. They listen as someone starts speaking to them. Then, they respond with vowel sounds or baby babble. These exchanges often excites the baby. •When a baby is 6 months old, they start adding various consonants to their words. There is a repetition of their favorite sounds as well. At this age, the sound of their voices may be frequently enjoyed by the babies. •When a baby is 9 months old, a number of words can be understood by themit. Simple words such as “mama” or “dada” may also be imitated. •When a baby is one month old, there will be a small vocabulary of words. A baby will give response to the attempts with babble that will imitate the sentence structure. •Common commands will be followed by babies when they are 18 months old.
