Women who are tuned into their bodies can easily gauge that they are pregnant once they conceive. But some women cannot detect their pregnancy until the symptoms begin to show up. Once the fertilized egg gets attached to the walls of the uterus, changes within the body start up. In many situations, weeks cross by without any symptoms of pregnancy. It’s only when you miss on your menstrual cycle that you actually realize that something’s up. Below is a list of signs that point towards an impending motherhood. You may experience some, all or none of these symptoms of getting pregnant.
1. Missing out on your monthly period A rise in the hormone levels during pregnancy prevents you from shedding off the uterine lining like you do every month. A missed period not always means an assured conception. However, it is a potent sign to suspect pregnancy. Amenorrhea may also occur because of hormonal imbalance, weight gain or loss, stress, breast feeding and discontinuance of female contraceptives.
2. Morning sickness A lucky few don’t suffer pregnancy morning sickness until the first few weeks have passed following conception. Uneasiness and nausea in the morning basically symbolizes conception. The pregnancy hormone human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG) causes the stretching of uterine muscles along with the excessive build-up of stomach acid giving way to nausea during pregnancy.
3. Craving for particular foods The shifting hormones and nutritional requirements bring about the craving for different foods. It is particularly during the pregnancy first trimester that this happens. However this alone cannot be considered as a sure shot symptom.
4. Implantation bleed or cramps After a lapse of eight days following ovulation, one can experience implantation spotting along with slight cramps. The spotting is generally pinkish or brown in colour. The spotting and cramping during pregnancy happens because the implanted egg settles in the endometrial lining. Some spotting can also be detected during your expected menstrual dates.
5. Darkening of the areolas When the skin surrounding your nipples starts to get darker, then this might mean that you have conceived successfully. This situation can also point towards a hormonal imbalance caused due to any previous pregnancy.
6. Fatigue If you feel exhausted most of the times, then it’s mainly because of high progesterone levels. The heightened presence of progesterone in the blood makes you feel absolutely tired. Fatigue is a hallmark sign during early pregnancy but again, this alone cannot be taken as a sure-fire symptom.
7. Tender mammary glands With other signs of pregnancy, comes the enlargement of mammary glands. Also the breasts will be tender and painful but this symptom will subside after the body gets accustomed to the soaring hormone levels.
8. Excessive urination After the implantation of the embryo, the body begins to produce human chorionic gonadotropin hormone which can lead you to the bathroom much often.
9. Sensitivity to aromas and an altered sense of taste As early pregnancy symptoms, some pregnant ladies may have an altered sense of taste and smell. Certain aromas can make them nauseate. Nausea during pregnancy is because of estrogen flooding within the body.
10. A positive pregnancy test If the pregnancy test is positive, then you are very much on the family line. Meet your doctor and confirm the news after proper pregnancy testing. |
