After the initial euphoria surrounding the birth of your little one wears off, immense paucity of sleep is one major problem both new parents and the new born go through. No baby sleeps through the night and that means no mother can either. Infants sleep in bits and pieces and that is how it should be. They need to be fed every two hours and so they will wake up. However, as a part of the process, a mother rapidly loses her quota of sleep too.
Prolonged Sleeplessness
Apart from this natural phenomenon, some babies are insomniac albeit temporarily. They will simply fail to fall asleep during nights. This will make others in the household, especially the mother, lose sleep too. If the problem persists and grows with the child, it may adversely affect his/her proper growth and may reflect on his/her studies and normal development. So the crucial question that arises here is: How to make a newborn sleep? And, how do new moms cope with sleepless nights?
To start with, try to find out if there is some sleep disorder in your baby sleep patterns. It is quite possible that the over-stimulation during the day lingers on and reflects upon the baby sleeping patterns at night.
In most cases, newborn sleeplessness is not a cause for worry. With time, babies do learn to fall asleep in the night, irrespective of the time they were born. Most of them sleep from mid-night to 4 or 5 am which is the time mothers are most sleepy. Mothers should make the most of it and sleep while the baby sleeps.
Newborn Sleep tips
Newborn sleepless nights can continue in a haphazard manner and impede in shape-up of normal sleeping patterns if certain necessary steps are not undertaken. Some babies are so adamant in not sleeping that the mothers are soon exasperated. The condition can be put right with relative ease. Soothe him down with prolonged whispered into his ears. Rock him gently in your arms or in a crib. An inert body will soon induce sleep in him. Let her stick to this routine every day. Slightly older children must be made to hit the bed and get up from the bed at the same time every day. A newborn sleeping can be left undisturbed even past its feeding time in order to set the sleeping pattern initially.
No Noise and Lights
Contrary to what many believe, infants do listen to music and can establish a pattern of the music they hear. Rock or hip-hop is not the best forms of music a new born should be subjected to during bed time. Soft instrumental music might do the trick!
There should no bright lights shining in the bed room. Mellow blue or green lights are good but the source of light should not be visible. LED lights will make the babies stare at them and that will make their sleep go away a step further.
Make sure your baby is not disturbed in his sleep by sudden noises like your dog barking, phones or door bells ringing loudly. Following the aforementioned newborn sleep tips can surely help you and your bundle of joy sleep too glory!
