Newborn Care

A newborn is a bundle of joy, no doubt, but the bundle can easily be source of worry too if proper care is not executed. Newborn babies are easily susceptible to contracting a host of ailments that are peculiar to them. A prudent mother takes cognizance of this fact and prevents such occurrences besides taking prompt remedial actions in case the baby catches infection or feels troubled by anything.

Newborn’s Vaccinations

An important agenda in child rearing is administration of vaccine shots as advised by the pediatrician. There is an absolute necessity to immunize the newborn from getting an array of life-threatening diseases such as tuberculosis, hepatitis, diarrhea, polio etc. Infants can catch cold at the drop of a hat and it is imperative to safeguard them against it.

Breastfeeding Newborns

The best form of nourishment a baby can get is provided naturally in the mother's body. Try to breastfeed your baby every two hours without waiting for the baby to cry. The exclusivity of milk can take a back seat when the baby is 6 months old.  If the baby is sleeping unceasingly, you can wake him up gently for feeding. As the baby breastfeeds, he swallows in some air along with the milk. Burping the baby is therefore extremely important; else it could result in spitting and crankiness.

Newborn’s Crying

Crying is the only means of communication that babies can employ. Newborns cry on account of anything, which means you need not panic when you hear your baby start up. Babies cry when they may need feeding, changing or may simply be bored!  In the cases of incessant crying despite the measures you have taken, seek medical advice.

Newborn’s Teething

If there exists an accepted phrase “teething trouble” in English language, it could only mean that teething and trouble go together. Almost all the babies develop a slight fever and a mild form of diarrhea during teething. Many of them get irritable and tend to bawl incessantly. Do not be overly concerned as initial teething is normally troublesome. If any of the symptoms turn severe, contact your pediatrician.

Newborn’s Bathing

Newborn bathing can be very tricky for the first few weeks till the baby’s umbilical cord falls off and the surrounding area heals properly. Therefore, instead of bathing fully, it is advisable to give your newborn a sponge bath using a semi-moist washcloth. In addition, clean the genital area thoroughly after changing the diaper each time. Once the umbilical cord falls off, you can use a small baby bathtub for newborn bathing. However, always be precautious and never leave the baby unattended while bathing.

Newborn’s Nail Trimming

Babies grow their nails rather fast. In their enthusiastic waving of hands and toes, they may sometimes scratch themselves and draw blood. You can trim the nails using baby nail cutters or clippers. Be very careful not to scratch the baby with the device.

Newborn Baby products

Be it baby hygiene products, furniture, backpacks or bathtub, buy the best. Do not give too much of a thought to price. Buying cheap quality essential baby items could land you and your baby in trouble. Remember, newborns are very sensitive and chemicals are all-pervasive. Even the glue in the baby furniture could be harmful in case the baby puts his mouth to it. Some baby foods too may contain chemicals. Choose wisely and carefully.

As a final word, it is for the mother to take care of her baby with special measures that fit her individual case and see her newborn grow into a healthy child.
